HMC Annual Report 2017

AR|2017 WELCOME Astrid Hepner Program Director /CEO Dear Friends, As we have seen another year of growth I want to take this opportunity to say thank you – to the staff, the teachers, the donors, the partner schools and all of our treasured community partners who have made a tremendous contribution to the growth and expansion of our programs. Let me share some of this year’s highlights with you: • We expanded the AIFEC program to 12 schools and 2 community centres • We continued our highly successful collaboration with the B&GC – bringing the AIFEC program to more youth and engaging more directly with parents and family members • We presented 14 year end concerts where AIFEC students, JAMBASSADOR bands and our own orchestra were able to perform for family and friends • AIFEC students participated in a variety of community arts events including Supercrawl Collaboration is critical for our growth and we are forever indebted to those organizations, foundations and individuals who not only support us financially, but also have collaborated with us as volunteers, event participants and concert attendees. It is because of your support that we are able to successfully achieve our mandate of providing Hamilton’s inner city children and youth with FREE high quality music education, allowing them to explore their creative potential. As we embark upon this new year – our 8th year, I can’t help but reflect on how far we have come since the launch of the program in our first school. By the end of the year we will be in fifteen schools and community centres, reaching over eight hundred children with our AIFEC in school program. We have grown our programming to enhance the creative potential of budding musicians. Open Jam for Kids at the Gasworks is a wonderful example of how we are truly nourishing the very renaissance of Hamilton’s creative evolution. I am extremely proud of the community we have created within the Hamilton Music Collective and i am forever indebted to our Board, our instructors, our volunteers and our students. As a result of your leadership, commitment and passion for the power of music we are making a difference in the lives of children and youth who otherwise would never have the opportunity to experience music education. Because of all of you AIFEC is able to successfully assist carrying children forward, as vital, responsible, and contributing citizens within their community. Thanks to all of you for helping us nurture and shape the future of music in our community.
