Advanced Programming

Jambassadors: The AIFEC JAMBASSADORS is a performance-based program designed to teach children the ins and outs of playing in a band together. The program covers every aspect of the experience, from the audition process, through rehearsing cover songs and writing original material, to performing onstage in front of a live audience in a professional concert setting. Weekly classes will encompass not only individualized instrumental coaching, but ensemble playing and stage presence, developing both the confidence and musicianship of every student. The instructors are experienced professional musicians who will instruct students on the finer points of their instrument, while at the same time educating them on everything that goes into putting on a great live show. Cost is $100 per 10-week term. REGISTRATION IS OPEN TO KIDS AGES 10-15.

AIFEC Orchestra: The AIFEC team always strives to provide new musical opportunities to the participants of our program. Music is about playing together, and we are now offering our advanced students the opportunity to perform in an orchestra/concert band as part of the AIFEC Orchestra program. Students should demonstrate a willingness to work hard, practice, and learn, and a desire to make great progress on their instrument. Attention to dynamics, reading sheet music, and listening to other players are all key learning outcomes for the orchestra. Weekly rehearsals will take place on Thursdays from 7:00-8:00pm. REGISTRATION IS OPEN TO KIDS AGES 7-12.

JAM 101: JAM 101 is a fun program for younger kids who would like to be in a band but aren’t sure where to begin. No prior experience necessary! This 10 week program will allow participants to try a variety of instruments such as keyboard, guitar, bass, percussion, ukulele, drums and more, all the while learning how to improvise and create music together. REGISTRATION IS OPEN TO KIDS AGES 7-12.

BEATS BY U! Electronic Music Performance for Youth: AIFEC proudly presents a new youth-oriented 10-week course guiding aspiring artists to channel their creative energy into digital music production and performance. Course leaders will curate a special musical program for ten carefully chosen participants who show a dedication toward cultivating their existing musical talents or perhaps exploring music for the first time through non-traditional avenues. They will use their own personalized computer workstation, equipped with piano and drum pad Midi controllers and connected to digital music production software. The course will include an introduction to basic musical theory, and see youth guided through different genres of digital music, experimenting with performance sequencing, and sample-based production skills. Above all, students will use the ten sessions to learn how to create their own unique sounds, so that they may continue to explore their own artistic journey after the course has finished. The program will mentor youth musically and unlock the confidence that exists within them to help them be the best version of themselves that they can be. REGISTRATION OPENS IN 2019. DETAILS TO FOLLOW.

insideOUT Songwriting Workshop: insideOUT is an introduction to the art of songwriting as a tool for creative and emotional expression. The workshop started as a pilot project with our 2017 JAMBASSADOR program, during which the Violet Gems and Stinkbugs bands each completed a song through 4 hours of guided collaboration. Each workshop consists of 3 sessions of 2 hours each. Session 1 begins by dissecting some popular songs, and talking about the different parts that can make up a song. Participants are then guided through the process of co-writing as a group their very own song. We complete the song in session 2, and a music producer joins us to record it in session 3. By the end of the workshop, everyone will have an MP3 of the song to share with friends and family. If you play an instrument, bring it along — but you don’t need to play anything to be a part of insideOUT. Everyone will contribute to writing the lyrics and melody, and to singing on the recording. HMC is accepting students for this upcoming workshop. REGISTRATION IS OPEN TO KIDS AGES 10-14.
