HMC Annual Report 2018

operating year, the keynote mood around HMC is one of excitement, optimism and enthusiasm for the slate of planned initiatives that are to be put in place. For certain we need to attract additional funding to make this a reality. Upon reading these remarks, if you are already a committed supporter of HMC, we offer our sincere thanks. If you are just discovering us and wish to come on board… we would love to chat! - Bob Miller, Chair. participating since the program’s inception there are success stories too numerous to mention and we know that through your continued support and the dedication of our teachers and partners many lives have been changed through music. In a time where schools are under constant pressure to make budget cuts and music programs are often first on the chopping block, the AIFEC program has become more relevant than ever. Thank you for sharing our vision! - Astrid Hepner, Program Director and CEO. DEAR FRIENDS & SUPPORTERS I am pleased to share with you our 8th Annual Report. At the time of writing our 1st ‘official’ progress report I could never have imagined that we would travel so far. With your support we have expanded our program into 14 schools and community centres all over Hamilton. We have developed new initiatives such as our highly successful Open Jam for Kids and we have scaled our Jambassador band program to one that now includes a concert band, three rock bands and an improvisation class for kids with no musical experience. In addition to ongoing program growth we are increasing our awareness in our community; two of our Jambassador students, Alex and Rachel, recently performed at First Ontario Concert Hall with the Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra while one of our youngest band students, 11-year old Lucas, opened for one of Canada’s leading Blues artists, Steve Strongman at a recent CD launch. With over 5,000 students On behalf of the Board of Directors of the Hamilton Music Collective, I would like to offer sincere thanks and appreciation to our CEO, Astrid Hepner and her dedicated staff for yet another amazing year of positive growth in the programming and operation of the many initiatives under the HMC banner. It all started several years ago as a single-classroom pilot project for An Instrument for Every Child at the former King George school on Gage Avenue and has since evolved into a mature, multi-faceted, all-encompassing package of youth music endeavours that has caught the ears and eyes of an ever-growing support base in Greater Hamilton. While all the hard work and dedication is duly noted, none of this would have been possible without the wide-spread interest and generosity of many corporate, institutional and private donors who have stepped up to the plate to ensure that the goals and aspirations of the organization became a reality. As we look forward to the 2019/2020 ACHIEVEMENT
