Hamilton Recreation Centre – Virtual Programs

We are pleased to announce our partnership with the City of Hamilton Recreation Centres! After a series of successful workshops in 2020, we are now launching a variety of free virtual programs for ages 12-17 in the spring of 2021. All of the programs are designed for beginners, and led by one of our experienced music instructors.

Programs are free of charge and begin the week of April 19, 2021. Limited spots available. Please sign up by Sunday April 18!

This course, designed and facilitated by music therapist Aimee Berends, is for teens ages 12-14 who wish to explore the power of music and songwriting to help ease stress. We know that songwriting and the creative arts can help relax students, improve their self-esteem, and leave them with a finished product that they are proud of. Students will finish the program with the opportunity to record their original song. By participating you also acknowledge that you will be invited to listen to music, make music, be creative and have fun!

Laptop, headphones and keyboard controllerBeats By U!

Learn to make your own electronic music! Students ages 12-17 will use Soundtrap.com to learn about programming beats, using loops, writing melodies and basslines, adding effects, and sharing their own original music! No experience necessary. Students will be offered a Launchkey25 MIDI keyboard controller and over-ear headphones to borrow for the duration of the program.

A 6-week crash course for learning the guitar! Our skilled guitar instructor Mark will introduce you to chords, riffs, picking and strumming, and everything you need to know to start playing songs! No experience necessary. Students ages 12-17 will be offered an acoustic guitar, capo, and tuner to borrow for the duration of the program.

A 6-week crash course for learning the piano! Our skilled piano instructor Annie will introduce you to chords, melodies, scales and everything you need to know to start playing songs! No experience necessary. Students ages 12-17 will be offered a five octave digital keyboard and stand to borrow for the duration of the program.

A 6-week crash course for singers! Our skilled vocal instructor Bailey will guide you through the basics of vocal anatomy, warm ups, following melodies and harmonies, and singing with and without others.  Listen to and learn from other aspiring vocalists ages 12-17. No experience necessary.
