Music Tech – Sampling 101
New programs for aspiring sound techs, producers, and audio engineers!
Expanding on the success of our Beats By U! beat making course, HMC is proud to present new programs designed for teens interested in recording, editing, and mixing music in live and recording studio environments.
Sampling 101
Sampling is by far the most moving thing within today’s world of music – from hip-hop to pop to electronic music and more. Sampling 101 is an exciting new course with an intense focus on developing the skills needed for sampling, beat making and mixing sounds within Ableton. Students will learn how to create samples from both pre-recorded music as well as how to set up to record and sample a live instrument in-studio. Students will then work with Ableton’s robust sound-sculpting tools and effects to tweak and modulate their samples to create something that sounds entirely original with the ultimate goal of creating their own sample-based composition. While they’re at it they will learn the history of sampling and how it came to be so widely used today.
Sampling 101 is open to anyone with an interest in electronic music, beatmaking, recording or editing music. Some musical experience is an asset but not required. This class follows the stream of Ableton-based music tech courses offered in previous semesters (Recording Arts 101 and Beats by U) but these courses are not a prerequisite for enrolment.
