Education in the arts is key in the development of a child’s cognitive skills, social behaviour, problem solving and emotional evolution. Participation in musical activity has been proven to: • accelerate a child’s ability to process sound • speed the development of speech and writing skills • train children to focus their attention for sustained periods • lead to better verbal memory • assist in developing social skills, particularly a sense of empathy towards others Participation opens student’s minds to think creatively and critically. Participation bridges languages, cultures and generations uniting us through shared experiences. Participation provides children with a means to express themselves, to cultivate their imaginations, to experience the joy of shared expression. Participation in music education plays an important role in developing the kinds of innovative minds and creative skills required by the entertainment, advertising, design, technical, scientific and other industries that enable businesses to compete successfully in the 21st century.
