Meet the Songwriter – Monthly Q&A and Performance

Meet the Songwriter is a new talk/performance series presented by the Hamilton Music Collective – Each month, we’ll hear a few songs from a local songwriter/artist, and allow you to dive into their creative process with an open Q&A. You will leave with inspiring ideas and strategies you can apply to writing your own great songs!

Camille Intson
January 28 2023: Camille Intson

Toronto-based singer/songwriter and multi-award-winning storyteller Camie (Camille Intson) has long enchanted audiences with her delicate queer-feminist croonings, rich vocal tones, and lush poetic imagination. After years of playing intimate gigs across southwestern Ontario and parts of the United Kingdom, the now-24-year-old songstress is plunging into unfiltered, unshackled creative expression with the release of her cinematic ambient folk concept EP, troubadour.

james bryan
February 25 2023: James Bryan

Hailed as one of Canada’s top guitarists, James Bryan has the ability to make an artist feel both relaxed and empowered to create great music, and his track record with Nelly Furtado, Yuna, Backstreet Boys, Olly Murs, Luis Fonsi and many more have proven the success of his approach. “With anyone I work with, my goal is to find what makes them unique and nurture that until it shines bright enough for the whole world to see and hear.”

L T The Monk
March 25 2023: LTtheMonk

Originally from London, UK, LTtheMonk first fell in love with hip-hop at just eight years old, when the music captivated his young ears and ignited a lifelong passion. With constant exposure to reggae (via his Jamaican mother) and rock (via his Irish father), coupled with discovering the music of Michael Jackson and becoming obsessed with the pop icon’s music and dancing in parallel with his foundational hip hop exposure, set LT off on a journey to becoming a musician himself.

Lori Yates
April 29 2023: Lori Yates

If you combined the honesty of Emmylou Harris, the pathos of Leonard Cohen, and the grit of Joan Jett, you’d get Lori Yates. Her artistic practice involves writing/performing/teaching in the alternative roots/vein, of which she is considered a “pioneer of the genre.” Her work has a cinematic, poetic quality conveying an emotional landscape with themes of loss and redemption. She is in her fourth decade of music. She is currently finishing her latest CD tentatively named “Queen of E minor”.

Join us on the last Saturday of each month (January through April) from 1:30 – 2:15pm just before our Open Jam. This event is for all ages.
