Our Music for Wellness programs partner music education with health and wellbeing. Using music, participants will learn and practice healthy habits, engage in positive social interaction, and apply proven musical tools. Come explore how music is a fun way to boost your mood and stay healthy! This year we are offering two different classes:

Music and Movement

A weekly class for children to explore and express their body’s musical language.

Music can get your toes tapping or your hands clapping, but what about the rest of your body? How does music invite us to stomp, sway, or swing, and how does it feel to engage yourself fully in the sound?

This class, offered to two different age groups, will engage participants in musical movement as a means of self-expression. Through games and improvisation, music therapist Elizabeth Eastwood will teach participants to identify basic musical elements and to embody them in creative and expressive ways. Through exploration and experimentation, students will develop their own musical movement practices to carry with them beyond the classroom and into their everyday lives.

Music isn’t just for listening, it’s for living!

This course designed by music therapist Aimee Berends targets teens who wish to channel their creativity through the power of music and songwriting. We know that songwriting and the creative arts can help relax students, improve their self-esteem, and leave them with a finished product that they are proud of, which may help them overcome some of their obstacles.

As part of this course, students will get to work with both a songwriting mentor as well as a professional studio engineer to create an original recording of their song!

Open to: Ages 12 – 17 with an interest in songwriting.

Cost: $130 per semester (11 weeks) (Scholarships available for families in need)

Day: Saturday afternoons
