Programs

Our programs are designed to create music opportunities for children and youth in Hamilton’s neighbourhoods with the greatest need and fewest resources. Through their engagement with music, children become self-motivated lifelong learners, build self-confidence and become active members of their community.

Our core program An Instrument For Every Child (AIFEC), delivered through partnerships with Hamilton school boards, provides hundreds of children in identified high-needs schools with classroom instruction, through weekly lessons in grade 1 and instrument lessons in grades 2-4. The AIFEC program is provided at no cost to the student or school.

Our programming at the HMC Centre for Performance and Education at The Gasworks (141 Park Street N., downtown Hamilton) provides students with opportunities to play in a variety of unique settings such as a rock band, classical string ensemble, or youth open mic. We also offer a slew of unique music production, recording and technology-based classes under the Musical Futures Production Program. We are not a traditional music school and do not offer private one-on-one lessons on an instrument, however we do offer affordable group lessons in guitar, drums, violin and piano for students with some experience.

These programs are open to the public and have a fee of approximately $12/class in order to cover the cost of instrument loans, with scholarships available for families in need.
